Lambda-Upsilon Alumni Association
The Lambda-Upsilon Alumni Association is chartered by Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity on a biennial basis (every two years) and maintains a voting seat in the Grand Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon, the supreme governing body of our Fraternity. The association is governed by a Board of Directors, whose members are both elected and appointed. While the majority of Board members are elected by the Association membership, some members serve because of other leadership positions they currently hold within Lambda-Upsilon. For example, the collegiate chapter Prytanis and the chairman of the Board of Advisors hold seats on the Board of Directors as ex officio members.
Some of the primary functions of the Lambda-Upsilon Alumni Association include:
Providing for regular communication with our chapter alumni;
Maintaining an accurate database of alumni contact information and mailing addresses;
Maintenance of the lambda-upsilon.org Web site;
Publication and distribution of official alumni electronic and print communications;
Conducting regular alumni functions and activities to further the mission of TKE as "The Fraternity for Life;"
Act as the primary fundraising arm for the Chapter Corporation, which is governed by the Board of Advisors.
This last responsibility is very important, as the Alumni Association leads our Lambda-Upsilon fundraising efforts for special purchases, scholarships, and future construction projects.
The elected members of the Board of Directors are selected by the alumni membership prior to the annual meeting of the Alumni Association. Terms are staggered so that approximately one-third of the directors shall be eligible for re-election or replacement each year. All voting members of the Board of Directors elect the officers of the Alumni Association on an annual basis, shortly following each annual meeting.
The Board of Directors can be as small as nine members, or as large as thirty-six members, and its size is self-regulated. The officers and committee chairmen serve as an Executive Committee, which helps guide the direction and focus of the Association. The Executive Committee meets on a regular basis, usually in Atlanta or Statesboro.
The Association operating budget is funded through the payment of alumni dues. While all alumni of Lambda-Upsilon are considered Association members, those who pay dues receive additional benefits not provided to regular members. Members are encouraged to support Association activities through payment of membership dues and participation in Association events held throughout the year.
The Association also sponsors the annual Tourista Tour Golf Tournament to raise funds for the Lambda-Upsilon Scholarship Fund and also makes an annual contribution to Tau Kappa Epsilon's official philanthropy, the Ronald and Nancy Reagan Research Institute of the Alzheimer's Association. The International Fraternity has established a goal of raising more than $240,000.00 for the Institute.
